On Tuesday, March 6, the boys volleyball team found themselves trailing Lake Mary two sets to zero. The third set started out rough for the boys team trailing 3-0, but the once that first point was scored, momentum shifted in their favor.

Senior Victor Jerez led the team in the set including two kills and many saves. One key save was when Jerez was on his knees saving the ball, then spiking it seconds later earning the point. The team pulled away from Lake Mary, winning the match 25-22 and avoiding the sweep.

The fourth set was just as close, but junior James Gray came in clutch with 15 attempts and an inbounds percentage of 93.3 percent. Once again won the set 27-25.

After each team won two sets, they had to play one more set to 15 to decide the match. They completed the comeback winning the final set 15-12. The team ended with 48 kills, five aces, and kept 90 percent of their hits inbounds.

“The first two sets in the game were rough and we had low energy, but we picked it up in the third, as I was able to score eight kills,” said senior Victor Jerez.

In the first set, Lake Mary came back from four down to win the set 27-25, and then  gained momentum in the second set taking a 24-17 lead. The boys team came all the way back to tie the game with two match point opportunities, but once again fell short 35-33. After dropping the first two sets, the team won the rest.

“The team’s performance in the first two sets was lack luster. However, they were able to use their skills and clinch a win. I was extremely impressed with my team’s mental toughness,” said head coach Sarah Jarem.
