The baseball team capitalized on early offensive opportunities with a 10-6 win over Oviedo on Thursday, March 8.

“We did pretty well as a team,” catcher Robby Post said. “Everyone did what they were supposed to do to win.”

The team had a hot start scoring four runs during the second inning and five runs in the third, keeping Oviedo scoreless. Center fielder Riley Greene especially made an impact early in the game with a two run RBI triple in the second inning and a two run home-run in the third.

“Team came out really pumped and we hit a lot better than we have in previous games but we did make some mistakes in the field,” right fielder Trey Bradley said. “If we take away our mistakes in the field, the game wouldn’t have been as close.”

As the game continued, Oviedo picked up some momentum scoring five runs during the third and fourth innings, partially due to errors the infield, making the score 9-5.

Pitcher Gentry Hawk came in relief for Angelo Garcia for the fifth and sixth innings, with two strikeouts and kept Oviedo from more of a comeback.

The boys sealed the win in the top of the seventh with a RBI double by Greene.

“We are just trying to get better every day,” head coach Matt Cleveland said. “We would love to try and win another district championship and make a run at the state final four, but right now we are focusing on getting better every time we step on the field.”
