On Friday Oct. 6, the yearbook, newspaper and broadcast staffs went to Daytona State College for the Florida State Press Association’s District 3 Fall Workshop.

Twenty-eight students attended FSPA and rode the same bus as Oviedo High School to get to Daytona. They first arrived at News Journal Center for an orientation with a guest speaker from “Florida Today,” Jessica Saggio. The students then traveled to Daytona State College for the remainder of the event.

At this event, schools from across Central Florida met to take three 45-minute sessions on journalism related topics. FSPA held the event to help high school journalists improve their skills in multiple areas, meet new people, and become closer with their staff peers.

“We all took different sessions to help improve Woof TV,” said junior Kali Jobs. “A lot of us took some interviewing classes and a sports casting class because we felt that those were the things that we need to improve on.”

This event happens every fall, and the state convention, with over 1,200 people, will take place on April 12-14. However, the state convention lasts is for a whole weekend instead of just one day.

“It was fantastic. With the group I went with it was a lot of fun and I learned so much. I’m definitely going to be really excited to go to the spring one,” said Jobs.
