In the regional sem-final game girls softball came back from a three-run deficit in the first inning against Mandarin on Wednesday for a 7-3 victory and a step closer to the state championship.

In the first inning, Bri Bennett of Mandarin hit a three-run home run to make the score to 3-0. The team bounced back and got four runs in the second inning. After the second inning, they remained on top for the rest of the game, and kept Mandarin scoreless while they managed to rope in another three runs.

“We really came together as a team and pulled out a win,” short stop Megan Woodson said. Even though they scored three in the first inning, we didn’t let that get us down and we fought back until we came out victorious.”

With this win under their belts, the girls softball team now has to face West Orange with a record of 29-1 on the road on Friday, May 1, for the regional final game. The game will determine who will move on to battle for the state championship title and who will go home with nothing but a regional runner-up title.

“Because the season is coming to a close so quickly, we just need to focus on one game at a time and try not to get to ahead of ourselves,” first-baseman Lauren Basen said.
