Outfielder Mackenzie Hawk got ready to swing at the ball. The girls’ varsity softball team won against Lake Mary 4-2.

Freshman  Ana Roman had already hit one home run when she went to bat for a second time. The score was 2-0 and the girls’ varsity softball team wanted another run to be certain that they would win. Roman swung and got a two run home run to make the game 4-0.

The team beat Lake Mary 4-2 in a seven-inning game. Roman scored all of the runs for the team and multiple defensive plays at centerfield which led the team to the win as well as pitcher Lexi Beldowicz who pitched six scoreless innings. The team had a total of nine hits and played an error-free ballgame. The girls kept Lake Mary from scoring for the majority of the game until the last inning when they scored two runs off of pitcher Reese Twigs.

“We had amazing energy in the game,” Roman said. “Our defense held strong and we were able to put hits together when we needed to.”

After a 2-1 loss to Windermere, and a second loss to Monteverde falling 3-1, the team was ready for a win. They knew they had to play their best and show up ready to play against Lake Mary.

“It felt good when we won again because instead of teammates bringing people down everybody lifted each other up,” second baseman Lindsey Engel said.

The team was able to execute timely hitting during the game which they struggled with in previous games.

“We have not been able to get our bunts down in a long time so it was nice to see we actually could,” Roman said.

The team’s record is 7-2 after beating Lake Mary. Head Coach David Stone believes that even though the team has a hard schedule coming up ahead, they can maintain their winning record.

This team has the opportunity and potential to be something very special,” Stone said.

The girls’ next game is against East Ridge at home, 7 p.m. and tickets can be found on gofan.com.

“The main takeaway from this game is if everyone does their jobs as we did, we will win,” Mia Spitulski said. “Everyone has a role on the team and everyone needs to do their part.”
