Charcasm is a reoccurring column where Online Editor Charlotte Mansur dishes out controversial opinions.

Long gone are the days of quarantine where we spent perfecting our sourdough starters and testing the best banana bread recipes. We have hit a stage where trying out the newest food trend seems like too much energy, and it is much easier to just pick up food on the way home from school or work. With so many options in Oviedo, it can get daunting choosing a restaurant everyone can agree on, but there is one superior choice that is commonly overlooked: Sonic.  It is severely underrated, despite its food and service outshining every other fast food restaurant

For starters, there is no other restaurant that will bring your food out to you on rollerskates. The fact that your waiter is willing to risk falling on their face in the middle of traffic demonstrates a whole new level of customer service. The whole drive-in concept in general is genius. Most of the time when driving through a fast-food restaurant you do not know what you want, this way you have as much time as you need to look at the menu without worrying about annoying cars behind you.

Sonic’s food is what puts it over the top, though. Their burgers are great, but you could spend a week just eating their sides and never get tired of it. Corn dogs, tater tots, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers, fries, pretzel twists and popcorn chicken…the list goes on. They all are great, but I would ride around Sonic in roller skates for hours if it meant I could eat my weight in their onion rings. Their breakfast is unique, too. The thick-cut french toast sticks paired with a sausage breakfast burrito are worth the potential heart attack to come.

Sonic invented customizable drinks before the Coca-Cola freestyle made it cool. They have a variety of syrup and fruit add-ins that not only make your drink delicious but will dye your tongue red or blue for at least a day or two. Plus if you had not gotten enough sugar from breakfast, you can get a scoop of nerds in any slushy or drink.

The famous golden arches of McDonalds may be flashy, and Arbys’ meat-tower sandwiches are very persuasive, but nothing can beat the combination of a slushy, burger and rollerskates.
