With the hope of going to a movie theater in the near future dim, we are missing out on so much: delicious popcorn that costs an arm and a leg, sticky floors and seats, and even the glow of phone screens in the dark. Luckily, Netflix is here to deliver at least one craving: the demand for a big-budget action movie starring Chris Hemsworth.

The Netflix original movie “Extraction” starring Chris Hemsworth is well on its way to becoming the biggest-ever film premiere on Netflix — with a projected 90 million households getting in on the action in the first four weeks. The movie still remains on the Top 10 charts of Netflix after two weeks of its premiere on April 24.

Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) is a fearless black market mercenary with nothing left to lose when his skills are called upon to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord. The movie follows Tyler Rake and the 14 year-old Ovi as they try to escape the street markets of Bangladesh while being attacked by a rival drug lord.

“Extraction” is far superior to Netflix’s previous attempts at big-budget action movies in the past, and it turns out that “Extraction” is precisely the testosterone-filled picture we needed until our beloved movie theaters can reopen for business. It was a bold choice to air the movie only on Netflix’s platform, but it ended up paying off. The movie was well received by the audience, and it is on its way to becoming the most popular movie to air this year.

The movie was one big stunt after the other. “Extraction” is big and not the most clever. Not to say that it was not cinematic, because for sure that was the best part of the whole adventure. The wide shots and heart aching acting pulled it all together, and even though most of the movie consisted of violence, it was dramatic violence.

But where “Extraction” ultimately falls down is in the other parts of the film – the stuff in between the gun fights and people getting impaled with gardening tools. The drama of the film lasted less than 10 minutes, and the majority of the time the violence took center stage, which is not necessarily a horrible thing for the action-packed plot.

If you ever find yourself running through the streets of India from a drug lord, trying to protect some kid you do not know for money, do not take a page out of Chris Hemsworth’s book and run far away.
