Boy’s soccer coming to a close

Both the boys soccer teams have been working hard and their efforts are showing on the field with JV leading the district and varsity in second place.  This season JV has maintained a 6-1-1 record and varsity currently has a record of 7-1-3, which includes winning the Winter Springs Pre-Season Classic by defeating Colonial and Cypress Creek.

As they look toward the end of the season  they’re hoping to finish out first in the district.

“We are looking for a high seed in the district tournament and advancing to the Tournament Finals which would qualify us for the FHSAA State Playoffs,” varsity coach Michael McAvoy said.

McAvoy is in first season as the JV and Varsity coach and players have been learning to adapt to his coaching style. During the season, players also feel that they have improved through playing as a team and learning each other’s styles of playing.  Trying out different formations to see which works best has been one of the main accomplishments this season.

“One of my favorite moments was when I got the assist on my brother’s game trying goal against Lake Howell with less than one minute left in the game,” senior Alex Chopra said.

The last home game of the season will be “senior night” on Monday, Jan. 13 at 6:30 p.m., and players and coaches encourage students to attend.
