On Wednesday, April 24, leadership held the annual Sammys event, a show that gave seniors various superlative awards. The award show gave all of the winners trophies for each archetype, from “Best Dressed Boy” to “Most Likely to be Your Boss.” It was hosted by seniors Sophia Mancia and Arden Reidy in the auditorium from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Seniors got to take photos together on the red carpet as soon as they arrived, and the doors opened at 6:30 to provide Chick-fil-A catering for dinner. The show started at 7 p.m.

“It’s like the Grammys or the Emmys,” event sponsor Sarah Jarem said. “But instead of celebrities, we get to honor our seniors.”

Leadership had a dress rehearsal on Monday, after school, with all hosts, presenters and nominees, to make sure the show ran smoothly on Wednesday. On the day of, they played a slideshow including several pictures of different seniors, followed by the entertainment acts, with the awards distributed between each one.

Mancia and Reidy both created a carpool karaoke video, a trend where people record themselves singing while they drive, and a Vine compilation that had several faculty members reenact viral videos. The dance group New Wave (senior Nasir Roberts, junior Josiah Wright and freshman Jennifer Cerrato) also performed. To close, senior Samantha Vincent sang Lady Gaga’s “Always Remember Us This Way.”

The process of preparing the Sammys was long and arduous, but to Mancia, it was worth it.

“We had to spend hours editing and we had to meet all of our deadlines,” Mancia said. “There were definitely a lot of obstacles. But we wanted to make sure it was perfect.”

All of the seniors that attended went home laughing over old and newly made memories, with hopes of creating new ones with the futures that they paved for themselves.

“Our goal is to celebrate the seniors and send them off in a way that represents their class,” Jarem said. “It’s something fun to do for their senior week.”
